Why Doesn't The Windows ME CD Contain The Remote Registry Service For Remote Connectivity To The Server? - CX-Server OPC version 1.1

Windows ME is the same as Windows 98/95 in terms of the setup of the machine required in order to remotely connect to our server, however the Windows ME CD does not contain the remote registry service that the manual refers to.

This means that an OPC Client cannot browse to see what servers are installed on that machine.

It is recommended very strongly that you use Windows NT/2000 for ANY OPC server machine, either remote or local - the security settings and stability of the DCOM communication layer is much more advanced than Windows 98/95/ME and as a result will always be advisable.

However, if it really has to be ME, then install the remote registry service from a Windows 98 CD, and the server should function correctly.
