Announcements

Windows 7 was originally released to general market in October 2009, and replaced by Windows 8 in October 2012. Mainstream support for bug fixes and security protection from Microsoft ends 14th January 2020.  Extended support for some Industrial systems using Windows Embedded Standard 7 SP1 continues until 13th October 2020. These Industrial WES7 based systems sold since 2009 are now reaching the end of their life and should be considered for upgrading.

Upgrading

When upgrading an old control system including obsolete PCs and operating systems make sure you consider the following:

  • Which Operating System should you upgrade to - the next OS or the latest OS?
  • Will your PC hardware (CPU, disk space etc) support your new OS or will you need to purchase new hardware too?
  • Will your existing software applications support your new OS or will you need to purchase a software upgrade?
